Our latest featured wedding is of Nicole & Nick and am excited to share some some of our favorite images from the day. While their wedding was beautiful and lots of fun, it also came with some pain, emotion and real life struggle of a bride and family coping with sadness & loss. Nicole’s story is unique and touching and I have to admit was even emotional for me at times during the day to document. Nicole’s dad passed in 2012, and in honor of his birthday in May, made it her wedding day to celebrate & honor him. I won’t get into all the details, but a year ago on the very day of Nicole’s dad’s birthday and upcoming wedding day, her brother & a friend were tragically killed in a horrific car crash in the middle of the night, which was not only devastating for the families, but created a day now filled with intense reason for celebration yet sadness & pain at the same time. Despite it being the one year anniversary of her brother’s death, Nicole decided to maintain the wedding date in honor of her father and despite some tears throughout the day, we had fun and and an amazing wedding day celebration.
Stopping at the cemetery so Nicole could visit her late father and brother on the wedding day, is arguably one of the most emotional things I have ever had to document. While it was difficult, I feel the power of the images are important… not only to honor Nicole’s father & brother, but to show that not every wedding day is the same and each and every one of us is dealing with pain and hardships in our life. The images of Nicole visiting the grave sites are extremely powerful and speak a thousand words… I hope those of you planning a wedding and feeling stressed over little things, will look back on this post and remember what is really important in life and recognize the love and family that stands by your side that day rather than some of the insignificant things that can often cloud our minds and cause stress.
I won’t go on and on here, but wanted to share Nicole’s story and asked for permission to do so. Thank you to Nicole, Nick and families for allowing us to be a part of the day. Check out some of our faves below and be sure to leave them some love below! 😉
